Titan releases Star Trek Comic!

Posted by Michael Warren on May 10, 2009

stcomic

So, today’s Sunday Mirror (a newspaper I would ordinarily go nowhere near) had a free special edition of Star Trek Magazine from Titan Magazines. A 16-page “taster” issue, including what I imagine are interviews from the real issue 145, the Movie Souvenir Special.

However, the major surprise came on the back cover. As well as the advertisment for Star Trek Magazine, the back cover includes the first announcement of Star Trek Comic, a new release from Titan! This is the first I’ve heard of this release – and it is a bit of a surprise.

The bumper first issue is apparently out now (although I didn’t spot it anywhere after looking around for Trek merchandise on Friday afternoon after the film), and is 68 pages (I presume future issues will be 32 pages or similar). The issue features the first two issues of the film prequel Countdown, as well as various other features, and film stickers. Obviously, it is intended for a younger audience, but I shall be picking it up as soon as I locate it!

This appears to be a UK-only release, as Titan’s US website has no comics section.

More information can be found at Titan’s official website here.

Bloody hell, that was good.

Near-instant reaction (i.e. having returned home afterwards) – with SPOILERS – below the cut.

Last word on the soundtrack

Posted by Michael Warren on April 10, 2009

So, I was right all along. OK, the cover is different, but the track list hasn’t changed.

More soundtrack stuff [UPDATE: Not official]

Posted by Michael Warren on April 6, 2009

Sorry for the lack of posting lately. Work has been extremely busy, and has prevented me from writing anything meaningful outside of it.

Anyway, today I discovered that the page for the Star Trek soundtrack at UK retailer Play.com has a copy of the cover, and what looks to be the proper track list. Read more behind the cut.

UPDATE: It turns out that none of this is official. Hopefully, that means “completely wrong”. The cover is “definitely not” the official cover.

FURTHER UPDATE: Only the cover is wrong.

New poster!

Posted by Michael Warren on March 26, 2009

So, a new poster has been revealed by /film and confirmed by Empire. And, here it is!

trek-09-uk-theatrical-poster

Yeah… to be honest with you, I’m not enormously impressed. The continual sidelining of McCoy in favour of Uhura isn’t encouraging, and the floating heads dominate a bit too much.

Although, the other poster /film revealed (at the bottom, with this one) looks a lot better. I assume that’s real too, although it hasn’t yet been confirmed.

In Brief – Soundtrack, posters

Posted by Michael Warren on March 23, 2009

In Brief

Soundtrack preorder

So, my usual trawl through Amazon listings to see if anything new has popped up has paid off, for a change.

The soundtrack to Star Trek, music by Michael Giacchino, is now available to pre-order at Amazon.com. It will be released on May 5th – that’s the Tuesday before the film is released.

EDIT: Little bit more info from TrekMovie – the release will be on one CD. Which pretty much blows the track listing I mentioned last week out of the water. A shame, really.

Posters

A couple of new posters have appeared on the Forbidden Planet website to pre-order – they’re not bad, but that orange nebula is more than a little distracting…

UK premiere details

Posted by Michael Warren on March 23, 2009

So, after the news of the world gala premiere in Sydney last week, fans across the world have been waiting to hear when their premiere event will take place. Well, details on the UK one have just been released.

The premiere of Star Trek will take place at the Empire, Leicester Square on Monday, April 20th, and there are tickets available!

These are a limited number, and cost £70 each (which, I’ve got to be honest, is a hell of a lot of money, even for something like this). The official announcement notes that JJ Abrams and cast will be present.

For more info, and contact details for the tickets, visit Paramount Pictures UK at http://www.paramountpictures.co.uk/news/star_trek_news_5.asp

I was tempted, I will be honest. But, the cost, on top of the fact that I would also need to pay for transport and an overnight stay, sadly renders it beyond my reach.

Still, not too long to go now…

Soundtrack tracklist – maybe?

Posted by Michael Warren on March 18, 2009

More stuff from TrekBBS. An eagle-eyed poster at the German Trek new site TrekNews.de apparently spotted a track list for the new movie soundtrack on FilmTracks.com (which subsequently vanished…). I don’t know if it’s true or not, and no official word has come (yet) from Paramount regarding the soundtrack release. Anyway, the tracklist, running times, and some of my comments are below the cut.

SPOILERS, naturally.

Another Esurance ad

Posted by Michael Warren on March 18, 2009

People on TrekBBS have been linking to my post about the Esurance ad, which has reminded me that I forgot to post the second one I came across, a week after the first. So, here it is:

“You will experience fear.”

Posted by Michael Warren on March 7, 2009

After someone over on this side of the Atlantic got a little impatient, and put it online a few days ahead of schedule, Paramount officially released the new Star Trek trailer on Friday morning (when they were originally planning to do so on Monday morning). It was a nice thing to wake up to – although it did almost make me late for work as a result of the magnificence.

Yes, I thought it was spectacular. Giving us action, characterisation, emotion and jaw-dropping visuals, it blew the first trailer out of the sky. And it gave us our first looks at a number of things, including [highlight to read] George Kirk, the Enterprise in full, and James T. taking his place at the conn.  I had to go back and watch it through a few times just to process everything. And the music was just right, Two Steps from Hell once again delivering a spine-tingling piece.

I close out with a few of my favourite images and moments…

"Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes..."

"Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes..."

"We've got no captain, and no first officer to replace him." "Yeah, we do."

"We've got no captain, and no first officer to replace him." "Yeah, we do."

Tell me this didn't give you goosebumps...

The angles on some of these shots are like nothing I've seen in Trek before - and that pleases me.
