OK, Star Trek instant reaction:
Bloody hell, that was good.
Near-instant reaction (i.e. having returned home afterwards) – with SPOILERS – below the cut.

So, I was right all along. OK, the cover is different, but the track list hasn’t changed.

Sorry for the lack of posting lately. Work has been extremely busy, and has prevented me from writing anything meaningful outside of it.
Anyway, today I discovered that the page for the Star Trek soundtrack at UK retailer Play.com has a copy of the cover, and what looks to be the proper track list. Read more behind the cut.

So, a new poster has been revealed by /film and confirmed by Empire. And, here it is!
Yeah… to be honest with you, I’m not enormously impressed. The continual sidelining of McCoy in favour of Uhura isn’t encouraging, and the floating heads dominate a bit too much.
Although, the other poster /film revealed (at the bottom, with this one) looks a lot better. I assume that’s real too, although it hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Soundtrack preorder
So, my usual trawl through Amazon listings to see if anything new has popped up has paid off, for a change.
The soundtrack to Star Trek, music by Michael Giacchino, is now available to pre-order at Amazon.com. It will be released on May 5th – that’s the Tuesday before the film is released.
EDIT: Little bit more info from TrekMovie – the release will be on one CD. Which pretty much blows the track listing I mentioned last week out of the water. A shame, really.
Posters
A couple of new posters have appeared on the Forbidden Planet website to pre-order – they’re not bad, but that orange nebula is more than a little distracting…

So, after the news of the world gala premiere in Sydney last week, fans across the world have been waiting to hear when their premiere event will take place. Well, details on the UK one have just been released.
The premiere of Star Trek will take place at the Empire, Leicester Square on Monday, April 20th, and there are tickets available!
These are a limited number, and cost £70 each (which, I’ve got to be honest, is a hell of a lot of money, even for something like this). The official announcement notes that JJ Abrams and cast will be present.
For more info, and contact details for the tickets, visit Paramount Pictures UK at http://www.paramountpictures.co.uk/news/star_trek_news_5.asp
I was tempted, I will be honest. But, the cost, on top of the fact that I would also need to pay for transport and an overnight stay, sadly renders it beyond my reach.
Still, not too long to go now…

More stuff from TrekBBS. An eagle-eyed poster at the German Trek new site TrekNews.de apparently spotted a track list for the new movie soundtrack on FilmTracks.com (which subsequently vanished…). I don’t know if it’s true or not, and no official word has come (yet) from Paramount regarding the soundtrack release. Anyway, the tracklist, running times, and some of my comments are below the cut.
SPOILERS, naturally.

People on TrekBBS have been linking to my post about the Esurance ad, which has reminded me that I forgot to post the second one I came across, a week after the first. So, here it is:

After someone over on this side of the Atlantic got a little impatient, and put it online a few days ahead of schedule, Paramount officially released the new Star Trek trailer on Friday morning (when they were originally planning to do so on Monday morning). It was a nice thing to wake up to - although it did almost make me late for work as a result of the magnificence.
Yes, I thought it was spectacular. Giving us action, characterisation, emotion and jaw-dropping visuals, it blew the first trailer out of the sky. And it gave us our first looks at a number of things, including [highlight to read] George Kirk, the Enterprise in full, and James T. taking his place at the conn. I had to go back and watch it through a few times just to process everything. And the music was just right, Two Steps from Hell once again delivering a spine-tingling piece.
I close out with a few of my favourite images and moments…

So, as the release date gets closer, more and more snippets of news on the new Star Trek film are emerging.
Today, we got the front and back covers of the novelization (announcement discussed here), which include a blurb that has piqued my interest still further for this film.
So, SPOILER WARNING for the image below (click to enlarge).
There’s a lot more emphasis on the title than on the version I made, but that’s probably for the best in terms of shelf visibility.
